The start of the All Harley Drag Racing Series was set for the sunshine state, but Friday morning started out cool. Doug attempted on pass at the Test & Tune on the Pro Fuel bike, it was after sunset, and the track had cooled down quite bit resulting in tire smoke.
This race marked the first race that Dougs bike builder and mentor, Mike Romine would be his Crew Chief and Tuner.
Saturday morning the rain started and lasted most of the day forcing the cancellation of qualifying and setting Sunday's field by last years points. Doug would start from the #3 spot in Pro Fuel and the #7 spot in Top Fuel. With an 8 bike field in both classes Doug would run against Joey Sternotti on the Ray Price Harley Davidson Bike in Top Fuel. At the starting line the bike idled down, at the hit it pulled left, losing to Joey first round.
For Pro Fuel, Doug faces Sam White, who was unable to get started, so Doug had a solo but still spun the tire. In the semi-finals Doug would face John Breckinridge. At the start Doug spun the tire, let the bike return to idle, in what looked like a sure loss, Doug turned it into a win with his pedal job advancing him to the final round against Randal Andras and his Crew Chief Rex Harris. At the start the bike again spun the tire and Randal went on to win the race. His bike was consistent all day, good job to Randal, Rex and the entire team.
Doug would like to Thank his sponsors, Chesapeake Harley Davidson, Energy One Clutches, Autolite Spark Plugs, Red Line Oil, Maryland Portable Concrete, Cecial County Dragway, Romine Racing, Chromatic, Mike and Patty Romine, and Dennis Paul.
With Doug returning to his Buell at the NHRA Full Throttle Series at Charlotte N.C., Mike Romine plans to ride & tune the Top Fuel Bike at No Problem Raceway, March 27-28, 2010
