Bradenton, Florida - Doug started his trip out driving the motorhome and trailer by himself, following Jim Halsey ADRL Pro Mod driver and owner of Cecil County Dragway to Bradenton, Fl. to test, this was the first time he has driven the rig by himself. With Doug changing motor builders to Matt Smith and a new crew in Gary & GT Tonglet the team arrives to test before the Tire Kingdom NHRA Nationals at Gainesville Raceway this weekend.
The first pass results in an aborted run to adjust fluid levels, the second run gave the team something to tune from. On day two the team learns more about the maintenance on the bike, they also change to the second motor for Wednesday to put some runs on the other motor. The team then packs up and heads to Gainesville Raceway arriving late Wednesday night..
Gainesville Raceway - Thursday morning rain showers persisted allowing for Doug to get the bike teched and the chassis certified.
Friday morning it again rained forcing qualfiying to be delayed until the afternoon session and limiting Friday qualifying to a singe session. Doug runs a 7.086 @ 184.93 to place 9th and have his time transfered to Saturday.
Saturday morning brings excellent conditions and Doug runs a 7.067 at 190.97 to move him down to 15th. With only one more session the team makes adjustments and prepares to run. On the last attempt Doug spins the tire and only runs a 7.08 at 189.90 to end in 18th and failing to qualify for the first time.
Doug stays Sunday and plans to test with Matt and Angie Smith on Monday to try and figure out the tune-up. Monday morning it was still cool but the wind has calmed down. On the first pass Doug runs a 7.03 @ 193.35 his best pass for the weekend. They take the bike back and make adjustements and Doug's third pass he runs a 6.99 @ 192.66, and his last pass a 6.94 @ 192.82, improving on each previous pass.
The team will head to Charlotte optimistic for a better performance.
