Friday - Qualifying
After a good performance at the rain delayed Mid South Nationals in Memphis Doug and the team looked forward to racing at the Strip at Las Vegas where he had raced his Nitro Harley in 2007. In the first round Doug runs a 7.07 at 188.86 to land in the 8th spot . For the second session Doug leaves the line hard but at half track he feels the bile "nose over", he pulls the clutch in and the bike shuts off immediately. Back at the pit the team suspects a broken crank pin, the first motor trouble the team has had all year. Friday evening Doug ends up in the 10th spot so his time will carry over to Saturday.
Saturday - Qualifying
With another motor in the bike Doug is ready for the third session and with his slow pass last night he is in the first pair out, he runs a 7.16 on the new motor which still leaves him #10 going into the final session. With the team dressed in their "STAR TREK" themed costumes along with many of the Pro Stock Motorcycle teams Doug leaves the line the bike again stumbles and Doug shuts off early running an off pace 8.08 leaving him in the #10 position to run Micheal Phillips the #7 Qualifier with Micheal having lane choice.
Sunday - Eliminations
Doug has faced Micheal 5 times with Doug holding the advantage 3-2. Micheal leaves early and fouls the run away. Doug runs a 7.09 at 189.26 mph to move to the second round to face Andrew Hines. Doug leaves first with a .003 reaction time to Hines .005 Doug clocks a 7.12 to Andrew Hines 7.00. The team continues to look to locate the source of the electrical gremlin that has plagued the bike for this race and before the team heads to Pomona California for the NHRA Finals, but before Doug heads to Pomona he will stay in Las Vegas to run his Nitro Harley with the Western Harley Racers Association at the Lucas Oil Division 7 race.
Doug would like to thank his sponsors Chesapeake Harley Davidson, Md Portable Concrete, Red Line Oil, Autolite, Cecil County Dragway, Rance Aluminum Trailers and Horne Concrete Construction.
