Pre Race 6/12/09
Friday morning starts with rain showers and cloudy skies, there are reports it will clear in time to run our first qualifying attempt at 3:00 pm. Doug again comes to a track he has never raced on. This is a race that has mixed emotions for the team, it was here last year we first met with Junior Pippin to explore the workings of a Pro Stock motorcycle team and lay the ground work for the team competing here this weekend, but also where Scott Kallita tragically lost his life during last round of qualifying Saturday.
Doug looks forward to another chance to run his Chesapeake Harley Davidson, Horne Concrete Buell.
Friday - Qualifying - The rain showers have ended and first qualifying attempt on his Dragstar/Chesapeake Harley Davidson Buell, Doug runs a7.091 at 184.77 good enough for the #6 spot. With a solid first pass Crew Chief Bob Taft is able to make adjustments and Doug improves on his second run with a 7.053 at 186.43, still keeping him in 6th going into Saturday. Bob Taft commented that last week at Chicago we came right out of the trailer to the #1 spot and struggled through the rest of qualifying. Today we were able to make some changews and the bike responded, we still see room to move up in the order and feel confident that we can on Saturday.
