With the one month break over Doug headed to Chicago in 4th place in the Full Throttle points. Having tested in Atlanta 2 times during May Doug felt very excited about coming into this race as it was a track he had never run at. This race also brought a new sponsor to the team for a one race deal, Gina and Mark from Dragstar clothing came onboard to support Doug on his Chesapeake Harley Davidson/Horne Concrete Buell.
Friday Qualifing Session
Friday brought a beautiful day and favorable conditions. First qualifying pass Doug runs a 6.936 at 191.84, good enough for the #1 spot. Second round brought a lot of surpises as it seems everyone missed the better track conditions and no one improved. At the end of Friday Doug is half way to his first career #1 in the NHRA compeitition.
Saturday Qualifing Session
Saturday brought similar conditions, however it turns out there was a malfuctioning sensor, we changed it and for the last session made some improvement. After going over the bike we find a couple things that should help in Sunday's eliminations, but for Saturday's qualifying no one improves on Doug's 6.93 and he has his first #1 qualifier at the Route 66 Nationals on his Dragstar/Chesapeake Harley Davidson Buell.
Sunday Eliminations
Sunday, first round eliminations we face Wesley Wells, Wesley leaves first but Doug runs him down and takes the win 7.049 at 183.10 to Wells 7.14 at 187.44. Second round Doug faces the current Champion Eddie Krawiec. Eddie leaves first and takes the win 7.094 to Doug's slowing 7.168.
Doug enjoyed his first time at Rt 66 Raceway, he met many new fans and saw several old ones. He also was glad to see on of the guys who he attended the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School with in Gainesville. Doug leaves Joliet still in 4th place in points and looks forward to competing next week at the NHRA Supernationals at Englishtown NJ.
Doug would like to thank Dragstar Clothing, Chesapeake Harley Davidson, Red Line Oil, Maryland Portable Concrete, and Cecil County Dragway.
