Scremin' Eagle Perforamcne Parts Nationals
Rockinham Dragway, Rockingham NC
10/9/2009

After racing his NHRA Pro Stock Buell for three weeks in a row, Douglas came to Rockingham and his AHDRA roots to have some fun and run fast.

Douglas entered his second Top Fuel race and fourth Pro Fuel race of the season.

Pro Fuel

In testing Friday night, Doug ran a 6.51 just under the current record of 6.52. For Saturday the first pass resulted in tire spin, but the second pass yielded a 6.56 at 204.35. Crew Chief Rex Harris made a few adjustments and the third pass Doug runs a 6.54 at 203.65 mph to put him in the #1 spot for the fourth race in a row that he has attended.

On Sunday with a 15-bike field, Doug has a bye run first round, he runs a 6.57, 210 mph, and he will meet Dana Meeks in round two. Doug runs a 6.58, 212 mph to Dana’s 7.04, 156 mph advancing him to the semi-finals and Mark Cox. Doug leaves first and lays down a 6.57 209 mph to Mark’s 6.66, 198 mph taking the win and going to his 3rd final in four races. Doug meets Jack Romine in the finals where Jack will have lane choice running a 6.54 in the semis on Jim Fagan’s Pro Fuel bike.   Doug gets the better reaction time off the tree, but at mid track experiences tire spin and drops a cylinder where he slows to a 7/17, 160 mph, however, he takes the win when Jack Romine has problems early on.

Top Fuel

Douglas qualified #3 with a 6.34 at 220 mph. On Sunday, he ran his career best ET and MPH against Jay Turner in the semi-finals, 6.31, 224 mph. In the two races Douglas has qualified for in Top Fuel he has went to both finals. In this final, he met the 2009 Top Fuel Champion, Steve Dorn, again Doug leaves first but slows to a 6.49, 191 mph to Dorn’s winning 6.34, 216 mph.

Congratulations to Steve and the entire Latus Motor Team on their 2009 Top Fuel Championship. Doug would like to thank his crew chief Rex Harris who had his EPC unit on all four bikes in the Top Fuel and Pro Fuel finals, Mike and Patty Romine who had their Romine Racing Motors in all four bikes, also Energy one clutches, Red Line Oil, Chesapeake Harley Davidson, Maryland Portable Concrete, Cecil County Dragway, and Horne Concrete.
