Taking a break from the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Doug again travels to Atlanta Dragway to compete in the AHDRA Stone Mountain Harley Davidson Southern Nationals presented by Charles W Watwood and Associates
Doug enters the race on his Pro Fuel Nitro Harley with the #1 plate from last year. In test and tune on Friday Doug runs a 6.73 and a 6.72 over 200 mph on each run. Feeling confident on the tune up especially with the hot weather and track temperature the team does routine maintenance Friday night. Saturday morning is again warm and in first round Doug runs a 6.487 at 212.66 mph this is better than the current ET record of 6.52 putting him in the #1 spot. Making a few adjustments.
Crew chief Rex Harris prepares for the second round where Doug records a 6.60to remain #1. In the third session Doug again runs a 6.605 to stay #1. On Sunday elimination day Doug runs Will Simplot, Doug leaves first and runs a 6.557 at 215.89 which breaks the current mph record. In the second round Doug faces Tommy Solan, Doug again has a slight advantage at the tree and runs another 6.557 at 209.46 to Tommys 6.819 to move into the finals against Randal Andras. Doug with the starting line advantage runs a 6.574 at 215.58 to back up the mph record and take the win to Randals losing 6.819 Doug also had his Pro Stock Buell in his pit and saw a lot of people who had either been to Atlanta NHRA or watched on ESPN2. Doug stated “I’m very happy to be back racing in the AHDRA where I first started on the V-Rod Destroyer and I really enjoy riding this Pro Fuel Nitro Harley in the Rush Pro Fuel class, I want to thank everyone who came up and offered me encouragement on the Pro Stock Buell.
