In March 2006, 18 year old Douglas Horne competed in his first ever motorcycle drag race at Gainesville Florida in the All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) on his new 2006 V-ROD Destroyer. Although Douglas was defeated the first round on Sunday morning he went on to win the 2006 Iowa race and advance to the finals in the 2006 Rockingham race. He finished in 7th place nationally and received the 2006 AHDRA Sportsman Rookie of the Year Award. In March 2007 Douglas jumped up with an additional motorcycle and a new class, the NITRO Pro Fuel class with a Mike Romine built, Rex Harris tuned 150 cubic inch Weekend Frame, Nitro injected Harley. Douglas was forced to compete with rain showers in the first race at Gainesville, not able to qualify but he was able to obtain his license with a 7.08, shutting off early. In the course of the season he advanced to 5 finals with 3 wins. This gave him the runner up position in the National Points Championship for Pro Fuel. On his V-ROD Destroyer he was able to advance to 3 finals with 2 wins, at the end of the season he finished runner up nationally to his teammate L.E. Tonglet. Douglas has advanced very quickly in a short period of time, especially since only ever having been on a motorcycle of any kind since August 2005 when he obtained his street license.
